Urban Revival

Urban Revival
Douglas Krisch

when we walked west
after what seems like many cool windy months
the humidity picked us up and carried us

we were blinded by so much summer sun
- by so many summer suns -
piercing us from sky to crest
on hudson ripples

with well covered eyes
and heads turned to the east
we lay dazzled by torsos gliding by
afloat bike rivers

the grass
blade by thick june blade
each one carved up into its
shaded and sun-drenched phases

with these grasses as matting
and this viscous summer evening as blanket
the comings and goings as villagers
and waves of barbeque smoke as fire pit

Mannahatta is re-vived!
